5 activities that are fun for both adults and children

Being a parent does not have to be a series of trips to places you hate, or evenings of watching shows you have no interest in. There are all kinds of activities out there that are of great appeal to both adults and children alike and we’re here to share them with you. Discover what’s out there and start planning your next few weekends with these 5 activities that are great for all ages:

1. Take a music class with your little ones

Who doesn’t love music – it’s great no matter how old you are. Not to mention, you are bound to enjoy the process of teaching your little one about the joys of music. Eva Rado from Music Works Magic shares more on what they offer:

“Our Pre-instrumental classes for Babies, Toddlers and Newborns are always thoroughly enjoyed by the accompanying adults. In fact, often we have parents, grandparents or carers commenting as they leave the class what a great time they had!”

2. Laser tag is always a great time for all!

No matter how old you are, who doesn’t love getting their inner kid who wanted to be an action hero out and shooting around in the dark?

“Just got an email from the “Best Grandma on the Planet”. Elizabeth has an acreage property and she booked a laser tag rental for her 14 year grand-son. She wanted to let us know that her Laser Tag party was a huge success. “I have been promoted to the best Grandma on the planet,” Elizabeth said. “We had an absolute ball, we even had a night mission and they are already planning the next one. We also kept it a secret to all party goers until the last minute which created great excitement when we unpacked the boxes,” she said. Laser Tag in a Box is a fun, thrilling activity that has been enjoyed by kids and the young at heart!”

Lasertag is simply one of those activities that everyone enjoys, regardless of age! Another great example would be playing on trampolines, which not only help you get you in shape, but are great family friendly fun. Visit a trampoline park or buy a trampoline for your yard and get to bouncing with the kiddies! Speaking of healthy activities that are great to do with your family, get a kids picnic table and start enjoying nutritious meals together outside in the fresh air. Get that vitamin D in there!

3. Get a scooter and have a blast!

Who would have thought that scooters can be so much fun even as an adult? Sarah Cavalier editor-in-chief of MamaMag, shares her experience:

“Last year the awesome team at Micro scooters gave me an adult sized scooter so I could enjoy time with my kids doing something they love. My kids are 8 and 6 and super active and now they think I’m an ultra-cool mum getting around on a scooter with them! We usually scoot to our local playground where we have a fabulous chasing game we play. One person is it and must tag someone else, but first they call out a colour. If you can reach and touch that colour somewhere in the playground you are safe from tagging. The kids invented it themselves and between the scooting journey there and the tag, it’s super active stuff. I burnt over 300 calories last time we played it!! So not only am I having fun with the kids in something they love, but I’m getting a great workout at the same time!”

So grab your very own scooter and have the time of our life!

4. Take a trip to a nearby lake

Activities that are perfect for your family, adults and kids alike, do not by any means have to be complex or expensive. In fact, this next idea provided by Daniel Trani who runs online businesses, Sleepy Beans and Violet & Lily, is cost-free and heaps of fun:

“We have a beautiful manmade lake close to where we live and love taking our daughter there to have family picnics. There are always so many different varieties of animals to look at and feed. We always pack spare chopped apple for the turtles which they seem to gobble up every time. It is a beautiful place to relax on the grass whilst our daughter spots the different birds, lizards, fish and insects which makes it a great day out for the whole family. One of the best things about this type of activity is that there is really no cost and there is always at least one place in every community you can find to do this. I hope this inspires other families to get out and about in their local communities and enjoy a fun activity for all ages.”

What a fabulous idea, start small and get out into your local communities!

5. Simple yet engaging games for the family

Staying in on a cosy winter afternoon? Why not get out the family game collection and you’ll all be having equal amounts of fun in no time!

Open ended games that require thinking but are also flexible are great choices to keep multiple generations happy. Games like Apples to Apples come to mind. Bananagrams is good because each person works individually side by side. To account for varying levels, you can make different rules for different ages. For example, while an adult was having to criss cross five letter words, a 5 year old might use her tiles to write out simple 3 letter words. Chain stories are also a fun way to involve the whole family, with each family member adding a new sentence to shape the tale.

You’ll never be bored again with this list of awesome and diverse activities for the parents and the kids out there looking for something to do.
