We used to have family picnics at Cheltenham Park as a child and it was just by chance I was brought back here one sunny Winter’s morning when my son played soccer on one of the ovals. It’s such a lovely park set underneath lots of lovely gum trees that provide plenty of gorgeous filtered light when the sun is shining. The main playground is located in a nature reserve between two sports ovals and is heaps of fun.
A stand out for some would be the old school long metal slippery slide. A bit damp under bottom on a cold morning, but once it’s dried out it provides some serious speed! Another stand out is the birds nest swing which appears to be hanging from a fun giant bent pencil! A fantastic flying fox entertains the bigger kids, retro spinning cup if you can handle the dizziness, two sets of swings, an excellent structure with ropes and climbing walls and for the littlies there is a cute red seahorse and blue motorbike springer.
There are BBQs, toilet facilities and huge beautiful green ovals to run around on when sports not on. There’s also a cricket batting cage if you want to bring a bat and ball. Plenty of paths to explore through the trees and you’re welcome to bring your pooch, dogs are permitted off leash all year round.
