Gingerbread Village by Epicure

Now in its seventh year, the Gingerbread Village by EPICURE is moving location this year from Melb Town Hall to Riverside Gallery at the Federation Square, only 5 minutes from the Melbourne Town Hall. Built entirely out of gingerbread, see if you can spot iconic Melbourne landmarks and the gingerbread chefs getting up to mischief! With activities and plenty of treats for the kids, the Gingerbread Village is sure to add smiles to your festive season. Looking for delicious Christmas gifts? EPICURE’S pastry chefs will also be baking delicious treats that can also be purchased.

Santa’s Post Box
On now – Fri 14 Dec.

Australia Post is encouraging young Australians to write to Santa this Christmas. You’ll find the Santa’s letter box and the Spirit of Giving box just outside the Australia Post GPO, as well as a second letter box outside The District in Docklands.

Send your letters, drawings and wish lists nice and early to Santa, North Pole, 9999. Letters received with a stamp on the envelope, and with names and return addresses clearly marked on the back, will receive a reply postcard from Santa.

Santa’s Magical Kingdom

Myer Windows and Santaland

Myer Christmas Windows is a free exhibition open every day, 7.30am – 1am. The queues are sometimes long but well worth the wait, then head on up to Santaland on level six of Myer. You don’t need to journey to the North Pole to experience the wonder of Christmas.

Tell Santa your Christmas wish, get your photo taken and enjoy lots of exciting activities including a ride on the Santaland Express train.

Festive Projections
Now – Tues 25 Dec, daily 9–10.20pm, Federation Square

It’s that time of year again, when the city comes alive with glittering Christmas light projections.

Melbourne’s famous Christmas projections are back with free animated shows illuminated on iconic city locations. Catch the feature show at Fed Square and make your mark on the Yarra Building using savvy ‘fingerpaint’ technology to control your own vibrant light projection.

This year, the Christmas Projections will be at Docklands for those looking to have a night out beside the water. These colourful creations will be unlike the traditional animations and will create a new way to experience the area. A Merry Market Christmas

This festive season, Queen Victoria Market will embrace the Christmas spirit with an action-packed schedule of live entertainment, sustainable gift-making workshops, a Christmas trail for kids, Santa’s mailbox, plus visits from Santa Claus himself on Dec 22 & 23.

Bayside Carols in the park
Tues 11th Dec , 7pm–9.30pm, Dendy Park, Brighton East.

Pre-show activities for children start at 5pm and the main concert kicks off at 7.30pm and is headlined by a variety of performers including the Southern Area Concert Band, Vocally Wild and Mosaic Choirs. There is a variety of food stalls available to purchase from on the night. There will be a special appearance by Santa and Channel 10’s Mike Larkan will once again host the celebrations. This fantastic event will end with a spectacular fireworks finale at 9.30pm.

Carols by Kingston
Sun 9th Dec, 6.30pm–10pm.
Bicentennial Park, Chelsea.

The annual event, Carols by Kingston is a great chance to get together with friends and family before the holidays and relax in the park to the sounds of Christmas cheer. This FREE event is family friendly and showcases outstanding performers year after year, along with a visit from Santa, an artisan Christmas market for your last minute gift ideas and fireworks to finish off the night.

Rippon Lea Twilight Christmas Festival

2018 is an extra special year for Rippon Lea as it celebrates 150 years! Celebrate the festive season at the Twilight Christmas Festival. The house will be open for you to explore the rich history of the property and its inhabitants through a new interpretation as well as seeing how the house would’ve been dressed for Christmas at the time. Join in with the local choir as well as family games and craft activities and purchase your Christmas goodies from the market before relaxing on the lawn with a bite from an array of food trucks.

Glen Eira Carols in the Park
Sat 15th Dec, 5.30pm–8pm. Bentleigh Hodgson Reserve, Bentleigh.

Play, sing, dance and rejoice with live performances, hosted by Silvie Paladino, including Bella Paige, The Glen Eira Band, The Decibelles, The Grinch Christmas Show, a visit from Santa and  roving performances by The Snow Queens. Enjoy children’s craft activities including making Christmas tree decorations and reindeer crowns and festive face painting. There will be a wide range of food and drink vendors all night.

Mornington Carols in the Park
Sat 22nd Dec, 5.30pm–8pm, Mornington Park.

Hosted by none other than the ABC’s Jimmy Giggle along with the Superband and performances by local schools. There are children’s activities, food trucks and entertainment and of course, you better watch out because no Christmas celebration is complete without a visit from the big man himself, Santa Claus. Bring your own blanket and picnic, pull up a patch of grass and enjoy a great evening out under the stars with the Mornington community.

Luna Park’s Christmas Gala Lunch

Whitehorse Carols

Santa Claus is coming to town and so are a host of wonderful performers including popular entertainer Rob Mills, and Verity Hunt-Ballard. Beloved children’s act The Mik Maks will open the event, followed by performances from the National Boys Choir, the local jazz talents of the Blackburn High School Senior Jazz Orchestra and the Combined Churches of North Blackburn. Santa and his elves will be there from 4.30pm for photos before leaving for their around-the-world sleigh ride.

Family Christmas at Central Park

Monash Carols by Candlelight

Hosted by well-known TV and radio personality Pete Smith, the magic of Christmas is captured under the stars each December at Jells Park, where the community comes together to enjoy the Monash Carols by Candlelight Concert. Now in its 29th year, this celebration has become the City’s most prestigious event, which has a strong sense of community and involves the invaluable work of volunteers. Two community bands come together on stage to provide the music, with a variety of talented performers leading the audience through all their favourite carols.

Carols in Canterbury

Ppreshow entertainment by Bethany Fisher in the ‘Christmas Spectacular’ show. Main show at 7.30pm features soloists Daniel Hearn and Caitlin Spears followed by a stunning fireworks show that will light up the Maroondah sky (weather permitting) around 9.45pm. Ivanhoe Boulevard Lights

Dec 15th–24th, between 8.30 pm and 11pm each night.

The Boulevard in Ivanhoe East puts on one of Melbourne’s biggest and brightest Christmas lights displays. Since the 1950s, residents have decorated their houses, gardens and windows with illuminating displays of lights, nativity scenes and everything Christmas.

And every year, neighbours seem to go to even greater lengths to dazzle onlookers and put on a spectacular show, often with accompanying music. Car traffic during each night (7.30pm – 11.30pm) will operate one-way heading east.

City of Whittlesea Carols by Candlelight
Fri 14 Dec 7pm–10pm Terrace Lawns, Civic Centre 25 Ferres Boulevard South Morang.

The Community Carols Choir and the Diamond Valley Brass Brand will be performing. Enjoy free face painting, art workshops and other acts drawn from the Whittlesea community.

They are trying to reduce the impact on the environment, so this event will be free from polystyrene packaging and plastic items including balloons, bags and straws, and they encourage you to bring along your own reusable coffee cup, bag and water bottle.

Hume Carols by Candlelight

Craigieburn ANZAC Park, Craigieburn.

The Project panellist and radio presenter, Meshel Laurie will be our MC for the evening and Australian singing sensation Harrison Craig will be performing some of his favourite Christmas tunes! The amazing cast will include Chase and Marshall from Nickleodeon’s PAW Patrol and talented local performers. There will also be a special visit from Santa and fireworks at 9.20pm!

Carols at Heidi

A free and joyous night with the Australian Girls’ Choir performing a cappella carols in the beautiful grounds of Heide. Purchase tickets to enjoy a late night viewing of Mirka Mora: Pas de Deux—Drawings and Dolls and twilight drinks at Café Heide.

Gather your nearest and dearest and head to the beautiful Yarraville Gardens for a night of carols. Carollers will be treated to performances from acclaimed musical acts, a visit from Santa and a spectacular fireworks display.

Carols at the Castle
Sun 16th Dec, 5–9pm.
Overnewton Castle, Keilor.

Celebrating its sixth year, join in the fun of Carols at the Castle with a spectacular program of festive favourites with lots of sing- a – longs and holiday cheer at the magical Overnewton Castle in Keilor. Raising money for local charities through the Brimbank Community Fund.

Maribyrnong Family Festive Fairs

For the first time in 2018, three Family Festive Fairs will be held in Footscray and Yarraville and will include a live ‘elf choir’, face-painting and craft activities for the kids and photo opportunities with Santa on his throne.

Carols at Featherbrook

Lightpoint Church has held Carols at Featherbrook each year since 2012 as a Christmas celebratory gift to the Point Cook community. Bring your blankets and chairs to the Featherbrook Oval for a night of holiday cheer. There will be an animal farm, pony rides, jumping castles, face painting, roving entertainment, gift bags for kids, food trucks and to top it all off FIREWORKS!

Carols at District Docklands
21 Dec, 7pm-9.30pm with fireworks display underneath Melbourne’s largest and brightest star, next to Wonderland Junior fun park.

For the first time ever join in at Carols at The District Docklands, underneath Melbourne’s largest and brightest star! All event proceeds will go to our charity partner, Kids Under Cover, helping prevent youth homelessness.

Santa train at Queenscliff
10th and 17th Dec, 10am, 11am, 12pm and 1pm, Queenscliff Station.

Enjoy a steam train ride from Queenscliff to Lakers Siding and return. Hear Mrs Claus reading an Australian Christmas story, sing Christmas carols with their caroling elf, plus Santa will present each child with a gift. Christmas themed face painting for the kids and a children’s activity pack with ideas to help prepare for Christmas.
