World Famous Lifeguard Deano Gladstone from Bondi Rescue has saved thousands of lives with the Power of the Breath and is an expert in teaching adults and children how to optimise and recognise breathing patterns which demonstrate dramatic changes in their lives.

The correct breathing technique is key to good health, wellbeing, high performance and helps prevent illnesses including asthma. Deano has used breathwork to heal his own asthma and also to improve his cold water tolerance which has helped with his immunity and circulation.

When we breathe well, allergies and sleep disruption can be alleviated and we can avoid common respiratory dysfunctions.

As a lifeguard who has rescued over 5000 people, it’s quite clear to me that better breathing is related to the way we respond to stressful situations and could save many lives.

When I started learning about the Nervous system in my studies as a Personal trainer and a health coach about 10 years ago it started to fall into place, well I mean I was learning the science behind things I felt I already understood, but now I was better able to teach and share this info.

Simple tips

The simplest tips are to Breathe in and out of the nose! The nose is for breathing and the mouth is for talking and eating.

Using the diaphragm to Breathe is also essential, the best way to learn to do this is start by lying down and closing your eyes and putting your hand on the outside of your lowest ribs and feeling for movement of the diaphragm (major respiratory muscle).

Your belly should get slightly bigger on an inhale and smaller on an exhale.

A lot of our organs are attached to our diapram and breathing this way helps with digestion.

Breathing is key to good health, wellbeing, high performance and helps prevent illnesses including asthma. As mentioned, I have used breathwork to heal my own asthma. Additionally as cold water therapies are growing in popularity, breathwork also helps you to improve your tolerance to cold water, which in turn helps with immunity and circulation.

When we breathe well, allergies and sleep disruption can be alleviated and we can avoid common respiratory dysfunctions.
