Easter is a favourite weekend for many Australians. The kids are on holidays, most people get four days off, it’s like a sneaky holiday before we come into the colder months, and that’s why it’s a good idea to make the most of it.

Pair that with the fact that many of us have not been able to do the things we enjoy thanks to lockdowns, and we have even more reason to plan something special.

Here are our top tips for Easter Holidays

Stand-up paddle boarding

There is no better way to explore the great outdoors than by the water. It’s peaceful, it’s social distanced, it makes for a good adventure and its actually a great full body workout, so this easter holidays consider getting a board and having a play on it with the family.

Better still, if you have an inflatable board, such as those from Red Paddle Co  they are easier to transport which means you can hike to hidden water ways, bring it camping and easily travel with it. So find yourself a nice spot, bring a picnic, bring the kids and have some fun on a stand-up paddle board

The Zoo

There are some beautiful zoos in Australia, from the iconic Taronga Zoo, the Melbourne Zoo, the Australia Zoo and even the Zambi Wildlife Retreat who rescue animals from the entertainment industry.

A day at the zoo can be a magical day out, not only because you see incredible animals that you may not otherwise see, but because you also learn about conservation, do a behind the scenes tour, you can see some incredible shows and can also get up close to some species such as the koalas.

The Easter Show

Once a year a massive show comes to Sydney and it has everything from rides, to animal competitions, fashion shows, music, haunted houses and everything in between. If you want to entertain your kids for the day, while also being entertained yourself the Easter Show is a must do. Make sure you check out the show times so you don’t miss your desired entertainment. This show its so big you may even have to come twice

Hiking or the gardens near you

If you don’t fancy being around a crowd and would prefer some quiet, hiking or having a picnic in the garden may be just what you need. There are some beautiful tracks all around Sydney, from the Blue Mountains, the National Park and Narrabean. There are so many beautiful parks including the Botanical Gardens, Centennial Park and more. The Botanical Gardens actually have some kids programs where they can learn about different plants and herbs so if you time it right, your kids may leave knowing more about plants and cooking ingredients.

Camping with a Crafternoon

Last but not least, why not take a family camping trip or even camp in your own backyard with the kids. It will be a nice exciting adventure for them and it is very affordable. Make sure you plan some games and activities. A few you may consider include:

  • Get creative with paper mâché, colouring and painting

  • Hiking and paddle boarding
  • Get them to help with the cooking
