Aussie families, workplaces and schools are encouraged to register to host a virtual or socially distanced Footy Colours Day event to not only help kids with cancer, but to also connect with family and friends during a time when everyone is feeling more separated.

All schools who register to host a Footy Colours Day from now until 6 September will go into the draw to have a Footy Colours Day Ambassador join their celebrations virtually. Adding more excitement to the fun of a Footy Colours Day.

On average, kids with cancer miss out on more than six months of school, which makes it difficult to keep up with their peers. Fight Cancer Foundation’s education support programs operate in major paediatric hospitals and develop individual learning plans to meet the educational, social and welfare needs of each child. These resources are needed more than ever to support home-schooling and remote learning.

“Kids with cancer need you this year more than ever. Covid has shown us how important it is to keep connected with our peers and our education. Footy Colours Day is a fun and easy way to ensure kids with cancer, who are already doing it tough, aren’t more significantly impacted,”

Fight Cancer Foundation’s Managing Director, Eric Wright

“A Footy Colours Day event can take any form you like, so if you are working remotely bring everyone together for an hour of footy fun by using an online video platform, or for those that can gather together safely, as per COVID-safe restrictions, boost morale over a footy-themed morning or afternoon tea.”

“You don’t have to be a football fan to celebrate Footy Colours Day, it’s just a great way to get everyone together and, most importantly, unite against children’s cancer. We desperately need your help to continue to support these kids.”

Register your workplace or school at footycoloursday.com.au and join in the action at #FootyColoursDay.

How to host a lockdown Footy Colours Day

We know how tough lockdowns and restrictions can be. Footy Colours Day is the perfect opportunity to come together for some fun using an online video platform and host activities like trivia, online games, or a bake off.

Now more than ever programs like Fight Cancer Foundation are in need of community support to ensure they are able to continue their work helping children with cancer.

The team at Fight Cancer Foundation have come up with fun ways to celebrate Footy Colours Day with your family below. Whether it’s with a child’s school, or a workplace hosting a Footy Colours Day is a great excuse to break up the monotony of lockdown.

How to have a virtual Footy Colours Day at School:

  • Bring a little laughter to your student’s day. Get your students to wear their favourite footy colours for the day while learning remotely!
  • Students can present/explain to their classmates a reason why they follow this sport / team
  • Students can enjoy cooking a food item with a Footy theme, like a sausage roll, or bake cup- cakes and decorate them in their team colours to show the class (great way to get Mum or Dad involved too!). Find recipe ideas on the Footy Colours Day website in the Tips & Tools centre.
  • Students may enjoy an Artistic endeavour – ask them to draw a banner for their team or design a team jersey! Find these resources and more on the Footy Colours Day website in the Tips & Tools centre.

How to host a virtual Footy Colours Day with your Workplace:

  • Invite your workmates to wear their favourite footy colours for the day. Use your preferred video chat platform to bring everyone together and have some footy finals fun!
  • Host a virtual bake-off! Find recipe ideas on the Footy Colours Day website in the Tips & Tools centre.
  • Take a vote on who is the best dressed and the most innovative Footy Food Chef and award bragging rights!
  • Put your footy buffs knowledge to the test by playing trivia! Find these resources and more on the Footy Colours Day website in the Tips & Tools centre.
  • You and your workmates can donate online from the comfort and safety of home by creating an online fundraising page for your workplace!
  • Get creative with your fundraising! Ask everyone to donate the cost of their morning coffee or commute to work or charge an entry fee to the virtual bake-off.
