Nestle has brought out a vegan Kit-Kat in response to the growing demand for plant-based confectionery.

The new Kit-Kat V is made with 100% sustainable cocoa (sourced through the Nestle Cocoa Plan in partnership with the Rainforest Alliance) and a rice-based formula in place of milk.

“Taste was a key factor when developing the plant-based chocolate for our new vegan KitKat,” said Louise Barrett, head of the Nestle Confectionery Product Technology Center in York, the UK.

“We used our expertise in ingredients, together with a test-and-learn approach, to create a delicious vegan alternative to our original chocolate KitKat.”

It will be tested in various countries like the UK and the US first, and then if all goes well, we will see it rolled out in Australia, too.
