AFLW stars Sabrina Frederick, Ally Anderson, and Alyce Parker have joined forces with national insurer AAMI for their Clanger Buster Clinics in June and July to provide young girls and boys personalised and professional coaching to keep them in the game longer.

Research by the AFL shows the number of women playing football has surged since the advent of the AFLW five years ago, and in a post-COVID world, numbers for youth divisions (both boys and girls) of the game are also soaring. Interestingly, since 2018, on average, there are more females participating in youth AFL as compared to their junior share.

AAMI’s Clanger Buster Clinics will give the AFL champions of tomorrow the tools to sharpen their skills, improve their game and ultimately reduce their clangers on the field. [What is a Clanger? A clanger in AFL is an error made by a player resulting in a negative result for their side] AAMI hopes its support and delivery of the Clanger Buster Clinics will lead to continued growth in youth football – ensuring a solid base of future AFL and AFLW stars.

Current AFLW stars – including Frederick, Anderson and Parker; along with AFL coaches and support staff, will provide young athletes attending the AAMI Clanger Buster Clinics with money-can’t-buy coaching and skill drills that will celebrate their talent, improve their enjoyment of the game and encourage them to ‘play on’.

AFLW star Sabrina Frederick says: “Sport has always been part of my life, and I’ve just always known AFL was in my blood. For me growing up, there were many obstacles to continue playing, learning and upskilling in footy as a young girl, which I want to help minimise for the future AFLW stars. The AAMI Clanger Buster Clinics will hopefully help provide a clearer pathway for youth girls to set their sights on the AFLW, and stay playing the sport longer.”

Rapthi Thanapalasingam, Head of Mass Brands & Sponsorship says: “Australia boasts so many amazing sport stars, and we’re honoured to have teamed up with some of the AFLW’s leading talents including AAMI Ambassadors Sabrina Frederick and Ally Anderson.  The clinics will provide girls and boys an opportunity to improve their footy skills and gain confidence both on and off the field.  As a Major Partner of the AFL and AFLW competitions, AAMI is committed to supporting the young players of the game and community footy all around Australia and the Clanger Buster clinics are a great example of this.”

AFL General Manager Women’s Football, Nicole Livingstone, says: “Girls are seeing AFLW on television and are wanting to give it a try – elite-level representation matters.

“This is really encouraging as team sports, such as AFL and AFLW, can have an incredible impact on building a young person’s confidence, increasing fitness and improving mental health.

“Our AFLW players are role models, so for young girls to have the opportunity to get up close to the stars of the elite game is fantastic and will help to inspire the next generation.”
