New research reveals Australian’s have a connection to characters that have stood the test of time.

The survey showed that characters who have continued to reinvent themselves and cater to different audiences remain the favourites in 2022.

Mickey Mouse topped the list with Batman, Bart Simpson and Scooby Doo close behind.

Over 1,000 people were surveyed in research commissioned by value retailer, Best&Less, to understand Australia’s favourite and most iconic characters.

With Superheroes like Batman the predicted choice for their admired powers, everyday characters such as Mickey Mouse, Bart Simpson and Scooby Doo were also standouts.

The survey showed that while nostalgic characters are overall most popular nationally, states have differing preferences. Queensland, Tasmania and Northern Territory love Mickey Mouse, Victoria and South Australia prefer Batman, New South Wales are fans of Bart Simpson, and Western Australia and Australian Capital Territory support Scooby Doo.

Dr Sarah Arachchi, Paediatrician and mum said, “People love characters because it helps them to explore the world through a different set of eyes with a newfound sense of confidence, but also gives kids, for example, an opportunity to role play with their friends and foster new friendships through play.

“Children are often drawn to certain characters because they identify with that character or the character displays positive attributes such as bravery, intelligence, or kindness, which they strive towards. Parents today can easily bring to life these attributes through the wide range of character clothing.”

Janine VanDeventer, Head of Marketing, said, “We are reinventing our stores from 15 October, unveiling the largest most sought-after range of character clothing available in Australia.

Best&Less is Australia’s Home of Characters with over 1.5million licensed products this season. We believe all kids should be able to showcase the character they love, so we’re running a deal during October. Kids Character Tees are only $7 each when you buy two (or $12 for one). This is a total saving of $10 and by far the most affordable Character Tee in Australia.”

Best&Less was established in 1965. Today the organisation has over 180 physical stores (plus online) across Australia. With a focus on apparel, Best&Less houses baby and kids wear, men’s and women’s clothing. For more information, visit www.bestandless.com.au.
