Skyrail. Love it or loathe it, but the truth is the elevation of the train tracks, from Caulfield to Dandenong, has opened up 22.5 hectares of new public space, equivalent to the size of 11 MCGs. Beneath the tracks at Carnegie the area adjacent to the station has been transformed into a linear park. Various types of sport and exercise equipment encourage local residents to get active and embrace the outdoors.
Sport sure is a real focus here, with the hero being a fantastic half court basketball court. Brightly coloured park tables and seating, that feature funky bright citrus coloured brick and wood, provide somewhere to sit and watch, and don’t forget to bring your table tennis bat and ball as there are a couple of tables to play on.
There is a climbing structure, that is most likely more for fitness use, but provides some fun levels to scale, hang and traverse and kids can climb and jump from the giant black balls dotted around as well.
Bring your bikes down as there are km’s of perfect bike track to follow. You might even end up at the next great play space along the track for double the fun.
Grab a coffee from across the road at Tailored Cafe. They offer a 13 hour cold drip coffee and serve a mean looking crispy chicken burger too!
Opposite Carnegie Station, Koornang Road.
