Once a golf course, that closed in 2012, the new playspace in Olinda is now absolutely amazing and well worth the trip up into the hills. Spectacular setting, tick. Lots of activities and equipment for kids to play on, tick. Stunning views across the Yarra Valley, tick. Coffee van, tick.

As you enter the area, grab a coffee from ‘Oscar’ the Vintage Coffee Van in the carpark who serves up great coffee, hot chocolates, chai and home baked cookies from a local supplier. The melting moment was delicious! Then head down the path where you will be greeted by a large wooden totem pole of animals, carved by Shlomit from Bushwood Creations in Warburton. Her amazing wooden creatures can be found throughout the playspace.

There is a lovely mix of wooden structures, natural rocks and colourful slides and soft fall rubber matting, which makes it playful but still fits in beautifully in this natural setting. When it comes to equipment, this park has it all. Flying fox, fun slides, swings and swinging baskets, large rope climbing area, in-ground mini-tramps, cubby houses, roundabout, sand and water play leading into a small creek area. You can even climb on a giant lizard!

There are plenty of spots to have a picnic, and free BBQs! The central wooden rotunda area is really gorgeous and provides plenty of shaded tables. Brand new public toilets are also located at the playground plus a wonderful off-lead dog walking area on the former golf course.

While you’re visiting Olinda we recommend you check out the Olinda Falls, take in the views and grab from food at nearby Skyhigh Mt Dandenong or stroll through the quaint shops of Olinda Village. Grab a beer and some lunch at the Pig and Whistle Tavern or take a picnic to The Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden (formerly the National Rhododendron Garden). There is so much to do in the Dandenongs!
