These women all fell pregnant AGAIN for a second time, days after they had originally fallen pregnant. It’s a rare phenomenon, but be warned, it can happen!

Not one, but two!

This mum was in for a big shock – not only was she pregnant with twins, but they were conceived almost a week apart.

She fell pregnant with her first baby on the last day of her menstrual cycle – before she conceived again five days later.

The phenomenon is called superfetation and is incredibly rare – surprising even her own doctors.

Thankfully, her pregnancy went smoothly and twins Lilo and Imelda were born in August 2021.

The US mum said: ‘I was definitely shocked.

‘Firstly, because it was twins, and secondly, processing the fact that they were conceived five days apart.

‘I’ve never really known how twins work so I didn’t know that could happen – it was a really great surprise.

‘We had a miscarriage the first time we tried, so getting the news that it was two was beautiful.

‘All my family were asking how that can happen, we were all so shocked.

‘It’s good information to know about. I’m telling all my friends to be careful now!’

Her two girls were conceived at different times in January 2021.

Not the only one!

Another UK mum was also surprised and says she feels lucky it happened to her, delivering her so called “super twins,” who were born on the same day but conceived three weeks apart, in September 2020.

Triplets!

Meanwhile another couple received the shock of their lives when an ultrasound revealed they had conceived a third child whilst the mum was already pregnant with twins.

The third baby was conceived around 9-10 days after the twins.

“I just happen to hyper ovulate and ovulate twice in a month, so that is how I got pregnant already after already getting pregnant with twins,’’ the woman who posts on TikTok as the Taming Triplets said.

“Your [pregnancy] hormones are supposed to stop you from ovulating. Mine did not.”

The children are still considered triplets even though they were conceived about 10-11 days apart.

What is Superfetation?

Superfetation is a phenomenon that occurs when a pregnant woman releases an egg, usually a few weeks into her pregnancy, and it’s fertilized and implants in the uterus.

The result is two separate pregnancies happening at the same time. It’s such a rare occurrence that medical experts have only been able to identify a few confirmed cases of superfetation in pregnant women. So, while yes, you could get pregnant while you’re already pregnant, it’s probably not something to worry about.

It’s extremely rare to get pregnant when you’re already pregnant. There have been fewer than ten recorded cases of superfetation in humans.
